The problem was that we had no snow chains and the car's tires had no grip. So we came up with a solution: 2 guys sitting on the hood to make weight . As you can see it was lots of fun...for us :-)

if the vehicle is 4-wheel drive or has a certain type of tires, snow chains would not really be necessary
