When you left
you left a reflection
in the mirror of my soul

Your breath on my mirror
warmed my bones
but now I feel the cold

What can I see
but an image of you
reflecting me?

And I dont know how to
Break through...

You had other visions
I saw no contrition
when you said you had to go

You of yesteryear
remain in my mirror here
but you are far away

What can I see
but an image of you
reflecting me?

And I don't know how to
Break through...

This Morning I saw
just myself in my mirror
and behind me an open door

Behind me an open door

What can I see
but an empty space
where she used to be?

And I don't know how to
Break through...

  • Lewis i wish i could also write like that and build chords around the song...you have a lot of talent in that area, keep it up man !, do you first write the song or play guitar and "build" on that the words? or do it all at the same time?.

    Jesse

  • Thanks Jesse- my approach is pretty freform, but it is alot about 'building'! With this song I began with lyrics (which changed alot while I put it to music) and then used a chord I like to build a progression and experiment with a vocal melody for a first verse. I build up and chip bits off as I go along... no performance will be identical, guaranteed!

  • Hiya lewis, This is a cracking song,Like marieksone says you have your very own style which is precious. All the best man....

  • Thanks man!

  • Lovely, Lewis. You always use such nice chord variations and fills to give your compositions a lovely and distinct flavor.

I really like how you started strumming more emphatically around the 3:50 mark and how you kept that going when the vocals came in again.

  • Thanks- I really enjoy coming up with a good tune... the job is to get good lyrics to match! Thanks for your insightful comments... I agree it made sense to juice up my vocals to match my strumming at the end. Look forward to your new posts!

  • It's really nice and relaxing and the guitar music is amazing you should go on with ur life uploading more videos like this

  • Yea your right...in the process of writing a song one might change a lyric or a melody a thousand times before its complete and also one doesn't have a "formula" for writing songs...it just comes to you or not i think.

I guess one needs to have a clear mind to receive those moments of clarity and not be occupied with daily worries...or at least try not to be...

Sometimes you can make songs out of the worries, and thats what i call the blues ;).

  • very nice lewis... keep it up :)

  • one of your best ones yet :)

  • You have your very own style of writing songs...with lovely little entries in between the verses...A very beautiful original song my friend:-)....
