Mock-Up for testing the ash/char pathway from a downdraft gasifier, and into both an ash bin, and the heat exchanger that would extract the heat into water (Outdoor style boiler) this system heats 3 larger buildings in a VERY cold area (gets to Minus -50 here) heat is not simply a convience, but rather a requirement to stay alive.

  • Abitibi board is certainly cheaper than steel / refractory for the first one of it's kind.

Guaranteed to burn all night.! lol

  • Well, I love the cyclone idea, but they're a lot harder to make than a structure make of refractory brick.

  • Hey Greg. Why not a simple cyclone on the lower part of the first plenum? Only the cylindrical top would have to be refractory, and hexagonal or so would do. This would fill and smooth to round with dust. I made a test cyclone from the work of Bill Pentz and was amazed at the fine collection even with quite slow air flow.

Quite some complication on what you have now, although would it be offset by less cleaning and higher efficiency later?
