The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company has operated a rubber plantation in Liberia since 1926. On July 26, 2007 the Stop Firestone Coalition organized a National Call-in day, demanding that Firestone respect the workers and protect the environment. The company recorded a voicemail for callers defending their record in Liberia. This video contains clips from Firestone's voicemail and our response.

  • if you people are so worried about these people in these other countries...why don't you quit you 100k a year job and go thelp them?....oh yea..i forgot...you people are all talk and that'll be all youever do...you won't actually step up and battle you'll just voice you're opinion o how fucked up it is..fact is you only let people see you're version of the truth to make your point..problem is..it ain't the entire truth

  • Our Officials greatest responsibility is not to our people but rather to furthering their selfish interests! Eg. Senators earn $80k a year with additional benefits totaling $50k per annum; these same senators attempted to exempt themselves from imcome taxes while at the same time forcing the average Liberian who earns a $1/day to pay tax on this amount! Firestone is not to blame, it is the ineptness and corruptive practices by officials that are killing our people

  • This shit just sows the seeds of the next civil war

  • if it weren't for robotics this would be the case most everywhere,a s manufacturing would never have been automated. this remains the price of progress and we shall see one day what happens when 3rd world and emerging nations reach a parity when they refuse to do this and the cost shall be unforgettable. capitalism must exploit something that is cheap to work, it does not work via pure innovation. not in this life. sad but true.

  • Lack of money, now thats the real root of all evil !

  • I have been through Firestone, and the place looks a mess. Firestone can do much more to help those that work on the Plantation.

  • Shame on Firestone and on all kind of exploitation in the world!

Corruption is a plague like AIDS or diseases caused by smoking...

  • It's unfortunate that these countries in Africa are unable or unwilling to control/protect their natural resources from exploitation.

The people of this continent will be much better off when they get past this hurdle.
