  • can this composition be found on any release of his? or is it a fresh improv? his circular breathing technique is phenomenal

  • @oldlampsfornew It's fresh, but a concept that RM has been working with for a long time. A good place to hear it in a group setting is "The Flow of Things" (Black saint, 1987)

  • Alright, I have a high tolerance for dissonant stuff but could anyone explain to me whats going on here?

  • @axwell21 check Roscoe Mitchell @ Wikipedia...

  • Everyone could use a little bit of Roscoe in their life.

  • If only I could play like that...

  • @ta11p00 you're right! He's naked! Completely vulnerable...honest...open and revealing!

  • I love the diverse opinions. And whole is right?

    NOBODY and EVERYBODY.

  • Wowowow so amazing hes never taking a breath, it sounds like complete shit what a breakthrough!!!

  • Hey! I improvised this exact same thing yesterday! What a coincidence!

Thanks so much for your courteous response. I'm not saying the playing is better. Bird, Adderley, Gordon, Rollins - their technique and musicianship is awesome too, for what they do. I'm just saying Roscoe Mitchell's playing is on a whole different level that mainstream jazz saxophonists, as fantastic as they are and as much as I enjoy listening to them, can't or don't want to reach. Open your mind dude, and let the Ornette Colemans, Henry Threadgills, and Roscoe Mitchells flow in.
