This is an arrange version of オープニング2 (or Opening 2) from Mado Monogatari by Compile/LMS Music. Taken from DiscStation #12 (there is another update/version/whatever of the game within the #16 issue, too).

This song plays during the opening cutscene when Satan appears. MIDI data is embedded within the MIDDATA.MLK file (into the game folder, MADO).

Made by replacing the original GM presets by the following VST instruments or audio tracks:

- 18xVOPM
- 5xYamaha RX11 drum samples
- 4xlayers

Another example of a pretty successful 4-operator FM "arrange" (even if my songs sound like I arranged them, I only changed the MIDI patches most of the time, point is to show how good FM synthesis can perform when used properly and professionally).

Note that from this one, I realized there was an equalization problem with all my previous songs. So I EQed the bass drum differently in order to improve a certain range of bass response.

Minimal true arrangement has been performed. I only added string chords to support the main brass melody.

You may wonder why such a big amount of VOPM tracks here. I actually wasted 8 of them into that mega bell+choir+brass pad you hear at the beginning. It wasn't that necessary, but I wanted to do it anyway. :P

Hope you'll enjoy.

  • Wow, this sounds really cool. Nice work!

My only qualm is that the bass doesn't seem deep enough. Everything else is great, though!

  • Thanks. Glad you liked it. ^^

You are right about the bassline, one of the two sounds I chose to layer should have brought some depth. It doesn't sound as good this one (v=unXPvle22VA) for example.

I put the credit to laziness or lack of inspiration for not having spent enough time looking for a better combo ("E. Bass x2" and "Slap Bass #3" were the two VOPM patches I used). :P
