These were the glory days at Chrysler! This has the 392 cubic inch hemi motor, with pushbutton Torqueflite. This was the first year for speed control at Chrysler.
The color is a spectacular highlight..the bowed roof reminiscent of a convertible, and the ivory interior impeccable!

  • I'm familiar with the look of these cars from pictures in books and magazines, but do you know? I've never seen one in the UK. I'm sure someone must have one somewhere. They are a great looking car.

  • @rx6180 Hey, Mick! That's interesting! Perhaps the sole owner is afraid to bring it out into public...afraid it might scare the general population! It is rather intimidating looking! :D Thanks! :D Jack

  • With a Hemi under the hood, it's a good thing it's got power brakes and seatbelts. On a 300, those may have come standard. Had a friend who had a 65 Valiant that didn't have seatbelts. Not sure if it had power brakes or not. This looks like a petty cool ride.I'd've ordered one up in a different color, but that's me... And that's a Florida car. Maybe even from Coral Gables...

  • @Taranau Yeah, I'd agree...it needed some decent stopping power with all that horsepower! This definitely goes with Coral Gables...I can see it on Miami Beach too! Our 1961 Ford Falcon only had attachments for seatbelts...but my 63 Dart had them, as did the 64 Dart. Not sure when they became standard equipment. Thanks! :) Jack

  • That is quite the color it showed how manufacturers went wild with colors in the 50's even matching wheel covers to boot.

  • @monarch1957 Hey, Barry! Yes indeed...manufacturers certainly weren't embarrassed about color..they celebrated it! They were very careful to match colors too..I just wish they were as thoughtful about color today..especially in the interior! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 I suppose you could look at it in that way. I like the first 300 model Chrysler put out.

  • @46619TAB Yep..if I had to pick a color that's typical of Florida, this would be it...second, aqua blue! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @crazyhomer777 That's Loewy, sorry! :) Jack

  • @crazyhomer777 Hey, Mike! Exner was a brilliant stylist..just what staid Chrysler needed to bring it out of the doldrums. I think it's an example of what a stylist can do for a car company...also in that league is Darrin for Kaiser and Lowey for Studebaker and Harley Earl for GM. Thanks! :) Jack
