This vlog describes some of the presentation topics shared by Dr. John Bosco Conama that he focuses on Equality of Condition and Deafhood and Affective Equality. His presentation talks about raising the bar of the status of natural signed language, rights rather than needs, and psychological effects of mainstreaming. There are a lot more topics that are not covered since he explained explicitly about the concept of equality of condition using Deafhood model rather than medical and disability models. Dr. Conama will publish his book and inviting him to present in your area is recommended.

Francois Grojsean's article called Bilingualism, biculturalism, and deafness.
"The misunderstandings concerning sign language are also numerous. For example, despite all the research done on the subject in the last 40 years (in the USA, England, Scandinavia, etc.), some still think that sign language is not a real language. And yet, it has been shown, over and over again, that sign language has all the linguistic characteristics of a human language. Another myth is that sign language will hinder the development of the spoken language in deaf children. As we will show below, the reverse is true; it helps the acquisition of the spoken language, directly and indirectly, in addition to being a natural means of communication for the deaf child. Finally, it has been maintained by some that if one defends sign language, one must be opposed to the spoken language. In fact, most of those who defend sign language want the deaf child to also acquire a spoken language to the highest level of fluency."

  • nice vlog. Organic ASL= friendly environment, healthy mind, soul and energy, natural growth.

Organic meat= free from CRAZY TINY cages, chains, physically, emotionally and mentally abuse, chemicals, hormones, isolation.

    TRULY HEALTHY GROWTH.

Hearing people do not realize they behave like farmers, corporations. They ywant to make money they look at us as numbers same as we look at animals as numbers for money. Everything in this world is up down!!!

  • @wcmithaug It may be best to have grass fed organic meat as no chemical or antibotics are used so natural way of raising is much more healthy. Gee, it does make an analogy to life!

  • Yes yes yes it is time to spread out an important information and make it happen no matter when! Love your quote "Pat with love and sign fluently in their entire lives". Delicious recipe! Happy Easter!

  • @Ardizz3 Smiling...thanks! It is all about how we present ourselves in an equal status but it comes with love!

  • Hey Barb,

Ever since, we have shared same value of our own language and Deaf culture. I am extremely disappointed with some people who have attacked their own language. Some of them were already trained that ASL is an inferior language or a back up language to English only. That is completely wrong. Thanks for making positive about our own language. It means a lot to us. I wish you could make lamb for us. I did cook it once and it was horrible!. Poor me! Happy Easter to you and your family!

  • @deafchipmunk It is really a shame to see how some of them degraded themselves of their language. However, on the bright side, the majority of Deaf people do value and appreciate ASL knowing that it gains more benefits. When having a strong first language foundation usually ASL that learning a second language is at ease.

Aww about your lamb cooking experience. Perhaps try to follow what I did? Just saw more recipes in the net and perhaps try marinating? Hope you had a good Easter!

  • Many thank you for your much effort and energy to making comment. Thank you

  • The information is good. Wow deaf schools are full of opportunity for deafies to learn many things they should know

I'm sorry that I am a vegetarian. Ha lol

  • Wonderful information. You presented it so clearly and articulately in your nicely edited video, as you always do. I should have stopped it before the ending though. Now I'm hungry. :)

  • Yes Nature is there we can study, observe, nature give us many hints!!! smiles

  • @KenX50 Yes indeed. It would be definitely better for you to watch his presentation. Cheers!

  • @ASLElla You know what's funny? The information he shared became familiar to me since I recalled we had the discussion about how we should not settle for less when ASL is used as a safety net or a tool. When watching his presentation, I was able to make that connection to what we talked about. The framework of EOC is idealistic but realistic? As long as we work together to push for ASL to be recognized as an equal status. Just added info about Grosjean's article in description box above.
