I've got to buy a turntable. I'm tired of hearing digital renditions of this album. Even on CD, the high frequencies on digital just don't cut it. Quantized highs sound like a cheese grater on my ears. The original half-speed mastered vinyl recording of this has these beautiful airy whispering high frequencies - especially great on the crazy percussion sounds at the end. When are we going to get 96k/24bit remasters of this stuff? Maybe that will do the trick.

electric or manual. It's a physical sensation on my hearing. I used to listen to music for hours on end. Can't do it with CD sound.

hmmm..well Zappa was sayin it generally in that interview...btw he was a maestro in detecting any "undetected" ("unheard") nuances in his recordings..lol..but yes..I been into vinyl since my teen metalhead years throughout the 80's..vinyl rules for sure!!

I believe Joe's Garage was the only album Zappa half-speed mastered. His only complaint was it had trouble with the lows.
I don't know if Zappa had my kind of ears to detect the irritating high-freq cheese grater effect from CD sound. I'm sure he loved the clean mid-range and lows and zero noise floor.
CD's sound better and better the lower you go in the sound spectrum. But the very highs are just terrible. There was no 96k/24bit in Frank's day. The fact it's here now only proves my point.
