Alpa Patel is currently a Producer for BBC World which involves working on developing stories at home and abroad, scripting, packaging and voicing stories in-house, setting up guests and generating story and treatment ideas.
She has more than 8 years experience in television news, working as a Presenter and Reporter for ITV Anglia News and a Freelance Reporter for ITV News.

Alpa started her career as an ITV Bursary student. She became a Reporter for ITV Wales covering major stories including the racism faced by some Asian and Muslim taxi drivers particularly after 9/11. She also covered the impact of major world disasters on Welsh communities including the 2004 South Asian Tsunami, the Pakistan earthquake and Hurricane Katrina. She was offered the opportunity to work for ITV Anglia News in 2006 and moved into a Reporting and Presenting role. She reported on major breaking and national stories including the 7/7 Inquests, the Ipswich Murders and the first outbreaks of Birdflu and Bluetongue in the country.

She became an official Presenter in 2008 fronting mainly Early Morning and Lunchtime bulletins. She has also been a Freelance Reporter for ITN, covering breaking stories including the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona, the pre-trial hearing of Conrad Murray and the beheading of a British woman in Tenerife.

Alpa has a degree in American Politics, History and Literature and put her knowledge to good use in 2008, when she worked as a Producer on ITV's US Special Election Programme. Part of her knowledge and contacts stem from her year abroad at Texas University which coincided with 9/11. The terrorist attack gave her an intimate insight into how the event affected Americans and gave her the opportunity to build a network of useful contacts. She also wrote articles for the University newspapers and a variety of websites.

Alpa has travelled extensively across America, South America, East Africa and India.
