They say that because samus has been significantly nerfed from her melee incarnation. Thankfully, us samus faithfuls have been developing ways to deal with this, changing our strategies and whatnot.

Amazing... I still can't believe people claim Samus to be one of the worst characters in the game when there's so much footage of her competing well with top tier characters in such high-leveled play.
