When I was younger, I thought this song was supposed to be about hating Esmeralda. Boy, was /I/ wrong....

c'est une bonne traduction. je suis un etudiant americain qui est en train d'etudier francais et je l'ai trouve utile.

@08AbsoluteZero put the front of your tongue down and the back up. it's hard to show in text, but it's a "ghrah" sound.

@Malon4Ever French r's are sort of a throaty phlegm with a slight English r, similar to the German ch sound or the kha (written as X) sound in Cyrillic script if that helps.

@BeutaynFlaym In fact, the translator didn't hear one word Frollo says, which makes the meaning of the sentence completely change... He actually says : "Sois mienne ou ma passion te mènera en Enfer", which should be translated more accurately by "Be mine or my passion will lead you straight to Hell" ! ;)
Apart this, I love this video, thanks for posting it!

Very close. The only things I find different are when he says (as you translated) "My passion, be mine or it will lead you straight to Hell" I think the English version of this was "Be mine or burn in Hell" It was a bit more cutting.
Other than that, good job!

C'est très belle!

I love this song... It really captures Frollo's emotions. Also, if any of you haven't heard it, you should listen to "Tu vas me detriure" from the comedie musical, Notre Dame de Paris. It really makes Frollo seem human, not like an evil villain.

@subliminalescape That explains a lot. All the French I've heard and spoken has a more different sound from the "r" (I had to practice A LOT to get it to sound like I'm a native speaker) But whenever I listen to French opera or theatre, some actors really roll their r's. I wondered if it was a theatrical thing or an upper-class accent.

@ShupaNaraic In the english dub it says "her raven hair reflects the sun"

This one should be the original version. All the rage and passion are stronger in French because Frollo is supposed to be French :)
But I swear I couldn't choose between Hellfire and Infernal, the lyrics are different; English is more immediate, while French is more powerful for a tale that takes place in France.. so they both are magnificent songs ♥
How is her hair flame-like when it is black?

@ShupaNaraic I imagine the texture of Esmeralda's hair or its movement when she dances could evoke fire. Or maybe does Frollo have such a devilish vision of her person that it seems to him she's changing into flames of Hell to torture him. Hair is women's best weapon in the war of seduction ;)

nice version. Also, I've always wondered how the "r" is pronounced. Is it rolled, spoken in the throat, or what?

@08AbsoluteZero You make me uneasy ! I actually don't understand myself how it works but the "r" must vibrate, not roll...it's not really in the throat, not really in the mouth, just where it beggins and where it ends...like if you were roaring.
I'm so sorry not to be able to help you ! I think the accent comes naturally with practice, and when make your ear used to it.

A really good translation, although I have a different solution. Mind if I share with you?
