Bossa Nova is a brazilian rhythmn, inspired mainly by the samba, wich was at the time the poor people music. Then the intelectuals and the great music composers (way ahead of their time) mixed together samba, classical music, french jazz (a little bit of North American too), and some rhythmns from the caribbean and 'spanish speaker America' and created a music style. It's lyrics were about politics, love, partys, feelings and most important, POETRY.
Bossa is brazilian music at it's prime.

well just to add some info u may want, bossa nova was the result of the experimentation through jazz and samba of a genereation of young brazilian musicians. Between them we have the mighty Tom Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Toquinho, etc. This kind of music was kind of unofficial, it didnt even have a name, till eventually people started calling it Bossa Nova, that means "New Thing"
