Learn more: http://synalia.com -- Star's fear of vets was about to cause him to die. He would not tolerate any medical procedures and became quite vicious toward caretakers. And he had a raging ear infection. To test a new training system, SATS, developed by Kayce Cover, he was given an extension on his death date. Liz Marshall, carer at Wood Green Animal Shelter, UK, agreed to try to help Star, through SATS. Although 8 months of training with various other techniques was useless, within 3 days, Liz was giving him ear drops. Could he agree to be good for his vaccines as well? If so, it might be possible to rehome him afterall, as he was otherwise a really nice dog. Despite careful training, the staff was not convinced that Star would succeed, so a generous plate of cheese was brought, to be his last supper, and when he failed, he would be quickly and humanely euthanized on the spot. And video was taken so that his failure could be discussed with Cover. Watch for yourself to see the results. Note the use of words to prepare Star for each step of the medical procedure - this is an actual vaccine being administered. Epilogue: Star has been in a loving home for three years now - and NO problems with vet care now. Star ushered in an affiliation between Wood Green and Kayce Cover, founder of SATS. Thanks to Liz for saving the life of this dog, and many others, with her dedicated work.
Ultimately, it's all about communication, empathy and trust... Way to go, Liz. And way to go, Star!
