@saveme1232 Maybe by not stepping all over the land rights of Millions of people, or dumping the construction effluent in the nearest river, or maybe by American construction projects not being so filled with corruption that service delivery falls to cents on the dollar? Bigger and faster is not better; witness the voluntary lowering of the former 300-km speed of the new Chinese highspeed train between Beijing and Shanghai, done for good economic reasons.

Just watched a doco on this building.
The design looked stunning until some Chinese Commie Bueracrat fuckwit ripped out the hole out of the top and put in a rectangle. Might as well have filled the fucking hole in completely because it looks shit now.

They got rid of the hole because it looked too much like the japanese flag...i think it looks unquestionably better with a hole instead of square.

The video is a bit out of date... the hole on top of the building is square, and by 2010 they will build (or start to build) the 459m Xujiahui Tower, next to Jin Mao(421m) and SWFC(492m).
