EADS Socata TBM850 2007yr model taking off from Santa Monica Airport Rwy21. TBM is a great single-engine turbo-prop aircraft. As a product, TBM is much better in quality than Piper Meridian.

  • well, first off they are only 2.5 new. second is that the meridians payload is minimal. Just because it has the seats does not mean it can fill them. With a full cabin (no luggage) you have only enough usuable fuel for about an hour trip with ifr reserves. The tbm can be fully loaded with 6 people all their luggage, true out at 300 ktas into a headwind and fly 1000nm. Its really meant to go after the vlj market. Which it dominates. Its the true owners plane

  • Complete nonsense "Rboyer100".

The PC-12 is a competitor to the B200 and the Piper Meridian has over 100 significant design changes compared to the piston Malibu.

The TBM 700 (& particularly the 850) is a competitor to the VLJ's. Both in size and speed. This is why TBM upgraded the 700 to make the 850. To compete with VLJ's and that is not my reasoning on the issue it comes directly from the CEO of TBM.

This is totally incorrect. The empty weight of the TBM 850 is 4589 lbs against a max 7394lbs . load it with fuel (1910 lbs), gives it a 6499 lb weight BEFORE adding passengers. This gives just 895 paying pounds of people, using the FAA standard of 170 lbs per passenger, means you can carry 5 people WITHOUT luggage, thus your full of it.

  • I like the Platipus better than the TBM.

  • I'd rather have a Sirus.

  • Meridian is a FIAT & The TBM850, I fly for a living, is a Aston Martin, end of story.

  • Seems that the TBM's true competition is the PC12 and maybe King Air 90. The Meridian really is just a re-engined (and instrumented) Malibu.

  • I can't believe you guys are actually comparing the Meridian to the TBM.... for those of you out there who have made your millions and demand quality there is only one choice to be made between these 2 aircraft

  • The Meridian is a warmed over Malibu/Mirage. A piston airplane not designed for the speeds or useful loads of a turboprop. It never works to take a piston airplane and try to convert it to a turbo. Too many compromises. The Meridan cruises near it's redline -- the TBM is built like a brick s-house and is never near it's redline. Consequently in the Meridan any turbulance requires you to greatly reduce the airspeed. And you must throttle way back when descending. The TBM is hands down better

  • Hell ya. we have an 09 850 all custom its sweet

  • How can you possibly rip on Piper like that? Some of the best training aircraft on the planet are their Warrior, Archer and Seminole. I don't know much about the fit & finish of a Meridian but, their smaller GA aircraft are built extremely well and their more stable than Cessnas. That's saying a lot for flight quality and I never experienced any interior issues in the many rental Pipers that I have had the pleasure to train in.
