In this video I build a rackmount WHS 2011 system!

I go through my upgrade from the original Windows Home Server to WHS 2011. I also upgrade my case from a mid tower to a 2U rackmount case (Norco RPC-250) and use some new hardware (including a couple of WD 1TB Green drives) as well.

It all gets mounted in my server rack located in my basement which also houses a 16TB Unraid server in a 4U Norco RPC-4020.

The time lapse build video is located here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lrW5G_7ggs

Check out the Norco RPC-250 case review here:

  • Nice vid! It's a little hard to tell but your Unraid server doesn't sound too loud at all. Is it?

  • @wowtorreon It's not too bad - I wired the internal fans on the RPC-4020 to run at 7 volts so they aren't too bad. Although I would say if I was sitting next to it I would be changing out the fans for something quieter - in the server rack / in the basement it doesn't bother me. I think I am going to try and post a vid about my unraid machine in the next while if you want to keep your eyes open for that.... later....

  • @scooter99tube That would be cool. I'm thinking about building one myself but right now my Windows Home Server is sufficient. Although, I just started uploading vids myself and I noticed that all that HighDef video takes a ton of space. Looking forward to the new video.

  • @wowtorreon I've got an ever growing list of about 20 upcoming vids I'd like to get through so it may be a little bit before I get to the unraid box video ;-) - I know what you mean about the space - I've been putting HD on my unraid box for a little while and 16GB sure doesn't go very far - might be time for a few more 2 or 3 TB drives in that unit ;-)
