  • I can guarantee you, that in ten years time, there will still be people argueing if he is singing "we can gather through our fear" or "we can gather throw a fit" :)

  • @clearskies I've always thought it was "we can gather, throw or fill" I've listened to this song literally hundreds of times on Murmur since I first bought the record in '83, and I can never hear a hard "T" on the end of that stanza. "Fill" also rhymes with "still," and seems to fit better thematically than "throw a fit." Then again, Stipe himself didn't even know the lyrics to a lot of the early songs, so . . .

  • Sitting Still is my favorite REM song of all time.

    Only Perfect Circle comes close.

  • @sergegrone Totally agree about "Sitting Still." I think it's one of the greatest pop songs ever written. The chorus still gives me chills after 28 years. Also love "Perfect Circle," Bill Berry's best song.

Oh no, it's not the chiming Rickenbacker/Vox sound I objected to.. That is/was Buck's signature sound. It's whatever modulated chorus or flange pedal he was using around the time of the Fables tour. You can hear it pretty clearly in this video.

  • mike mills and andy rourke are my 2 favourite bass player

  • dude this is incredible. thanks for the upload

  • @Issicra Sorry, gonna have to disagree with you there, if only for personal reasons, That chiming Rickenbacker encapsulated the sound of college radio in the mid 80's.

  • My biggest complaint about REM during the Fables period is that Buck had too much flange/chorus on his guitar... and that it was even more pronounced live.

I was glad that this was corrected later in Pageant and Document.... just my opinion.
