After reading a post (link is below) about a DIY Co2 reactor using a cheap underwater filter, I decided to give it a try. Overall it was very easy, and it only cost me the $10 for the filter itself. The only tool required is a drill.

As I say in the video, the only drawback to this type of diffusion method is the "burp" sound made by the bubbles hitting the impeller blade in the filter. Overall I'm very happy with how this turned out. If you have any questions or comments, please share. Thanks!

Here's a link to the post where I learned about this idea:

  • with the co2 reactor and diffuser u still have to buy plant food at the pets store? or the co2 sistem plus plant light ( fluresent ) its ok?

  • @GEMOOS2003 Yes, you still need to fertilize your plants. You can have the greatest lighting and best CO2 available for your plants, but without fertilizing them you won't see much of a difference.

  • i have done alot more research online about diffusers and i am going to go with the mini filter also looks like it works great.

  • @liv4daoutdoors Thanks for checking out the video. It does work well!

  • do you know where i can pick one of those ladders itself up online at

  • @liv4daoutdoors It's on Amazon for $18. Search the site for "Hagen Nutrafin Co2 Bubble Counter Diffuser Ladder". My advice, however, is to save yourself a few bucks and buy the Elite Mini Filter instead. It's much more effective as a diffuser. It's on Amazon as well - search for "Elite A130 Underwater Mini Filter UL Listed". Plus, that bubble ladder was a pain to clean. You have to scrub each ridge. With the filter, there's practically no maintenance.
