primary: sequence of amino acids in a polypeptide dictated by info in DNA.

secondary: arrangement of nearby amino acids in a polypeptide chain into a coil or pleated structure that forms b/c of hydrogen bonding. A polypeptide chain can have regions that are arranged as helices, and others that are arranged as sheets.

The 'folds' of the secondary are a result of hydrogen bonding. There are either beta-pleated or alpha-helix. Seconday = just the pleating/coiling.

The tertiary involves the 'side-chains' or 'functional groups' of the amino acids, which form disulfide, ionic AND hydrogen bonds. here the protein becomes 3D. Tertiary = the overall 3D structure of the whole protein.
