Roger Goring performs a fireshow and half pass in his Firestorm jet funny car.
Roger can only perform a half pass at York Raceway due to the shutdown area being shorter than other dragstrips, and York is a bumpy track at the top end. Despite that, on a good day Roger can take Firestorm to 200 miles per hour. Today's run was around a mid seven second run (remembering he shut off and popped the chutes at half track) at around 175 at the 1/8 th mile. Normally Firestorm is capable of a 260/270 MPH pass on the full quarter mile passes.
A quirk of having to shut off so early is that a different set of chutes (parachutes) are needed to slow the car down, as the regular ones designed for the full quarter mile pass wouldn't be as effective.
The event incorporated York Raceway's annual Minis vs Beetles challenge (Beetles won 9 to 7 this year). :)
Ozzinter. I can't remember the ET/MPH. There aren't timing boards at York Raceway, so you have to listen to the announcement. But I didn't hear it as I still had my earplugs firmly jammed in, and there was a car alarm going off. :D
The ET/MPH isn't high at York as Roger has to shut the car off around half track. The top end of York Raceway's track isn't very smooth, and the shut down area is just too bumpy, for a full pass.
There's always at least one car alarm going off afterwards. :D
