Silent Hill 2 - In Water Ending (1 of 7 endings)

In this ending James admits that he can't live without Mary. He takes Mary's body with him and commits suicide by driving into the water. After that we see Mary's letter being read with the under-water perspective giving a hing on how James decided to end his life.

I have played this game long ago, loved it, understand and accepted this as the "most appropiate" ending. What I never realized and now I am almost in shock are two things:

-Mary died from AIDS

-The feeling of guilt on Mary for being a burden it's because she got the disease because she cheated James, that's why she said a few times "I am sorry for what I did to you, to us"

Holly shit, that makes the game even deeper.

@Ograws Her body was in his trunk. How else do you explain him having her body in the boat with him in the Rebirth ending? Also three years didn't pass, probably not even three weeks, that was just a delusion brought on by James' repression of his memory of killing her. The letter wasn't even real (the further you get into the game, the ink from the letter disappears until it's blank, then the letter itself disappears from James' inventory).

@Skorbutt MISTAKE! James did not drive with Mary's dead boy to Silent Hill that was a rumor. He just went to Silent Hill after receiving the letter (unexplained how he got it) 3 years after her death. In this ending he commits suicide to be with her in the AFTERLIFE not as two corpses at the bottom of the lake :P

@Skorbutt Yes James killed her (in the video tape at the Motel) he put her in the trunk of his car and drove to Silent Hill. Rachel was the only other person that could delivery the letter to James because she felt she wouldn't be alive next time she met James or she could have been too nervous to give the letter herself. She didn't kill herself at the hospital. She wanted to die because of her suffering that affected James emotionally. The letter was her real thoughts and feelings

Just finished the game, got this ending and I find it so confusing! OK mary's dead. Did james kill her (and did she ask for it ?). Or did she wrote the letter, gave it to the nurse and then killed herself while at the hospital ? I don't see why she would wrote a letter gave it to the nurse and THEN ask James to kill her.
