Actually you could make a hanging plug. just lower a disk (with a 4ft cage to keep it from tilting) on a cable above the worker. If it does collapse you will have a pocket until the rescue team gets there.

@bigr4u03 so close if you where aiming for 80ft, you might have been able to hammer in a well point from the bottom of that hole...
-
@bigr4u03 Shoulds just Fit pipe down it And then You don't have 2 worry so much :)

If it caves in at least you save big on a cemetary plot and a casket !!
-
You should really have put casing on the top metre or so of soil, That's the depth most prone to collapsing. Ideally you should have casing all the way, but once your about a metre into the earth, the risk of collapse isnt that great.

hows the digging going?

i think you should use a drill or at least make one that is much safer and faster. by drill i mean like giant sized cork skrew

Now, where's the guy with the shovel?

You can hear him, but you cannot see him he is so far down.
In my other videos you can see him because he put a light down there and I was laying on the ground.

Oh okay, thanks for pointing that out to me. I hope he struck some water... It'd be a shame all that work for nothing. Looks like to me, this place is in Arizona/New Mexico, water is scarce in deserts.

Well, we aren't done yet. We are down to about 55 feet deep, and still no water. According to some neighbors the water table is somewhere between 70 and 80 feet. I will keep posting videos to keep everyone updated.
Oh by the way, it is on our property in 29 Palms, California, and the guy digging is my dad.
