Mob Spawner Basics - Minecraft 1.0

A beginner's guide to building an efficient Minecraft mob spawner.

I've been getting a lot of questions from people having trouble making their mob spawners work well, so I summarized a bunch of tips that should help you design the best mob system for your world.

i rly dont get it .... so mobs cant spawn within 24 blocks, (in every direction) of you... But the 144 blocks, aint that from the very east side, to the west? .. I mean, from where you are standing ( 2:27 ) i cant emagine there's 144 blocks obsidian, if the cobble only shows 24.. isnt it Half: (144/2= 72 blocks, each side) ??? ---> Please someone answer

@campine13 i think you're overthinking this... mobs will spawn within 144 blocks in ANY direction (up down diagonal whatever) except within 24 blocks of you (in any direction).

Is that 1.1 or beta, alpha, ect. If 1.1, what texture pack is that and how can I get it?

The video is very informative and easy to understand for newbies like me, thanks :) I would like to ask a few questions:

1. I don't know how big I should build my farm. Is the spawning frequency related to how much available spawning area is there? The larger the better?

2. What is the smallest area requirement for zombie/skeleton/enderman to spawn? 1x1 or 2x2 blocks?

Will mobs spawn on stone brick?

@campine13 If youre within 144 of a dark room or area, monsters WILL spawn. If you're within a 24 blockr radius of this dark room or area to spawn the monsters, they wont spawn. Very simple and easy to get a hang of
