"Hold On" was the debut single from En Vogue's debut album Born to Sing. "Hold On" was also the groups first single, reaching number one on the Hot Black Singles chart [2]. The single became one of 1990's biggest hits in the US and a major hit also in the UK (#2 in the US, #5 in the UK). It also reached #1 on the U.S. Dance chart [3]. The song opens with an a cappella rendition of the Motown standard "Who's Lovin' You", written by Smokey Robinson and originally recorded by his group, The Miracles. It features Cindy Herron on lead but Terry Ellis on the introduction. The song also contains a guitar sample from "The Payback" by James Brown.
They performed this song at the 2008 BET Awards along with Alicia Keys
The song's chorus was used and performed by Pharrell in the 2007 Jay-Z song "Blue Magic".

  • 100% woman, all of them. beautiful, sexy and talented. What happened to all the women groups that used to be soo great. Sick of a music industry that seems to dominated by a bunch of guys screaming at you all day and singing about nothing. Give me the womens groups any day

  • @zaldivarjohn I always felt Dawn was the prettiest...

  • @townview33 TLC was for kids who wanna be grown ...They were overrated, and would give this teen, kiddie look (in colorful overalls, and all), yet, would sing nasty shit like "Aint Too Proud to Beg", and "Red Light Special" ...En Vogue could be sexy, yet, STILL keep it classy! They were MATURE-SEXY (not just "fass") ...Not to mention, they could sing...

  • @hapibth0pel3ss I LOVED their hair!

  • @24Ornella Seriously, though I felt TLC was HIGHLY overrated! I'd say EnVogue, and then, SWV... EnVogue may not have had as much success after '93, but they jump-started it for alotta these female groups in the 90s ...and they brought back GOOD singing, cuz in the mid-to-latter 80s, you had alotta females that were pretty, and had great videos, but couldn't sing all that (i.e. Janet & Paula)

  • To me, Dawn was the prettiest ...best singer was a tie between Terry & Maxine (Terry could hit those high notes, but Maxine had the most soul) ...My voice was more like Cindy's...These females inspired me to sing...

  • #506

  • SCREW ANOTHA NIGGA YEAH BUT DON'T LET GO!!! Man these chicks were hardcore. En Vogue was... and is... SMOKIN HOT!!!!! I'd smash everyone of them TO THIS DAY!!!! Damn I miss the 80's and 90's!!!!

  • @yootuubinatwerk Aren't they really the best? Well...they were the best! The very best girl group of all times!Hot!

  • Biggest crush = The one on Juice.

  • @summersbr1 Sadly enough you have to blame the record company, specifically the female running things at the time for their demise.
