I'm enjoying listening to this popular Yiddish song sung and orchestrated in a typical Polish tango style. A beautiful version. Thank you for the Jewish-Polish cycle. We'll now stick around for the lovely pre-war Polish tangos sung by Stefan Witas et al. and for other goodies of the period.

Never heard this song sung in Polish. My mother was born in Southern Poland in the section known as Galicia.Mostly populated by Poles, Jews and Ukrainians. She was prepared to come to this country in 1921 but when She was ready to sail the laws were changed and She needed money for a Visa. She didn't want to return to Poland. While waiting for the money to be sent by My aunt She worked for a Jewish family taking care of their 2 children, so if it wasn't for a Jewish family I wouldn't be here.

Best version of this song.

Stefan Witas nie śpiewa z takimi emocjami, jak Adam Aston. Aston śpiewał tak, jakby opowiadał historię życia.

Belz is a town.

There were plenty of versions sung in Polish. One of best is performed by Magda Umer.
its is very nice and very kind you burn the candles like Yarzeit candles for Jews.
as a jew myself it is honour and respect I feel for you all .
Thank you on behalf of my family who did not survive Hitler's hordes.
Can anyone please help and put some of Dr Janusz Korcak's words or talks on you tube.
He was as you know such a great man who rather than save his own life went with many of his children into the gas chambers.

There are still a few of "those candles" on this channel.
My very best wishes and greetings for you.

Nie słyszałem tej wersji.
Mnie bardziej podoba się w wykonaniu Adama Astona. Co ciekawe, żadne z wykonań powojennych nie dorównują tamtym.

Thank you for your visit, my friend. As for Belz (to some extent real to some extent mythical place-town; there were/are two /!/ Belz's - to make a story more complicated...), I advise you to put that name into google and find information, there is quite a portion...-
Best, J.
