Note- These are just basic ideas. Don't be restricted. Just use this video as a "concept".

Most Wing Chun practioners only spar against other WC people. But,the problem is, most people use boxing as their main striking base. So, I think in this day and age, it is essential to use a more "western" stance.
Also, trapping is over-used. Sometimes it makes more sense to block or slip a punch. Also, consider the jab, head-movement, footwork.......all in which wing chun is lacking.

Boxing is a default martial art. Any technique can easily be adapted from the boxing stance. It is "alive" unlike classical wing chun, which often uses fixed positions.

Boxers shadow box, spar with resistance, break contact. Its more real. And then when you add in the grappling element, you realize that wing chun is just one piece of a complex puzzle.

Each martial art has a unique time when it is useful or useless. And yes I know, on the street you can poke the eye, or hit the groin. But, its alot harder to poke and eye or hit the groin than you may think. Especially when someone isnt "chi-saoing" with you, but throwing haymakers from long distance.

Wing Chun is a very great martial art. But, people need to stop treating the traditional martial arts like a religion. we live in 2011. We have a free and open society, where we can dictate our own paths, and forge our own destiny.

its great if you want to be inspired by the old masters, but times are changing, and so must your abilities. It is no longer practical to carry swords. And most fighters do not use straight punches. And most fighters today use headmovement. you must adapt and be open minded

I used to think that jujitsu was barbaric and simple. But, after months of study, I realize that it is a science. I used to think Boxing was simple. Yet it is also a science.

The key to evolving in the traditional martial arts is to practice it in a "alive" fashion. Shadow box, spar, ect...
