Paul Potts hahahahahahahahaahah
he is the best hahahahaha

In my view, they all sing this aria well. Personally, I think that Corelli and Pavarotti handle the Bb and the dimenuendo beautifully, and thus are my two favorites for this (even though I've often wondered how appropriate Pavarotti's voice was for the role over-all).

FRanco Corelli

@Lovelytenor1 I didn't notice Corelli's pitch problems or strained tone.As no tenor is perfect,I think few tenors sing Celeste Aida as good as F.C,inclusive of the diminuendo at the end of the aria which is written that way&done rarely except for Corelli.I saw F.C.live at the Met in early 1960 in Trovatore. He was really great& most memorable.Lanza is also one of my favorites, but mostly for the so called American songs, where he stands alone for beauty of voice, feeling&interpretation

Corelli &Lanza sound like the only voices that were suited for the entire opera as I realize Lanza only did the Aria and never sang the opera. The rest of the group sound strained or the voices are NOT big enough to sing the rest of the Opera as a Pertile ,Volpi, Merli, Masini,Campagnano,Tucker,Del Monaco,Penno,Martinelli, or De Muro were.

@sugarbist I was a tenor when I was a little bit younger and sang the aria.. I will look up the score ( I have the entire score). Nice to talk to you. PD is a decent musician for sure, and in some roles.. he is it.. but he has not been in that kind of vocal shape for over 15 yrs.
-
@kgarmaker123 PD does have a pretty good quality of voice & a nice stage presence. He is a good musician when singing in a more lyric repertory, like Traviata, Ballo,Butterfly.PDhas most of his problems in the more heroic roles, where the voice& vocal line are pressured. He begins to squeeze,Runs short of breadth&the vibrato becomes unattractive.I really don't understand why a fair tenor like PD receives so many accolades&gets Zubin Mehta to say he's the greatest tenor of the century

No1... Bergonzi...

@kgarmaker123 I'm pretty sure there are 2 B- naturals in No Pagliaccio Non Son. Domingo has always had a short top and anything above an A flat has been an adventure. The B-naturals are placed in such a way that they are actually pretty easy to hit & Domingo is the 1st so called, world class tenor I've ever heard avoid the 2nd one in that aria.I do agree with your comment about timber of a tenor singing as a baritone, which I don't think Verdi intended in Boccanegra.Continued
-
@sugarbist I think its a B flat btw... not a natural, which is even more alarming.. Domingo's technique was awful singing in the uppper register.. He pushed down so hard on his larynx... He should have converted to a baritone and worked on his lower and chest register notes.. Because right now he has the timbre of a tenor, singing baritone.. Rigoletto indeed.. Retire Domingo.. Retire!

It is not fair at all!!For example Pavarotti was more than 50 years old!!He was not young as Carreras or Domingo who where at their 30s...

@Unplacidista Figuriamoci gli altri...saluti
Order: Bergonzi, Carreras, Corelli, Domingo, Pavarotti -- Nice morph from Dom. to the Pav. at 3:59! -- Carreras, Domingo, Corelli, Pavarotti, Lanza. As an unregenerate believer in vocal categories -- or the vocal fach system -- I'm afraid that, fan as I am of Carreras/Pavarotti, I'd prefer to hear Pertile and Vickers, with their ampler (if slightly less beautiful) tones, in place of C. and P. But this is all really fun to hear! Fine job! Did you put Caruso aside because of poorer sonics?

Can any opera buff identify the tenor singing the following YouTube version of Celeste Aida?
watch?v=L2K4qlyaJu8
It sounds like a fairly modern recording (1950s or later). It doesn't sound like Corelli, Domingo, Bergonzi, Carreras, Lanza, Tucker, Bjorling, del Monaco, nor Vickers.
Could it be di Stefano, Aragall, or Gedda?
