Marche funébre - á la mémoire de mon ami Jules Bouval
"Maestoso in G sharp minor, 4/4 metre and ternary form. A heroic song announces itself as the main theme above rhythmically pulsating chords. In the middle section (poco piú vivo) elements of this theme are heard in a chorale-like, four-part texture in the major. The funeral march is taken up once more and ends pianissimo on the Récit, with closed swell box." (Ben van Oosten)

  • Aaah! Personally I think certain rhythms of this piece would be much more lyrical were it taken a little faster.. but, I suppose, you can't ignore the composer's instructions... so much of this book I feel is painstakingly slow... but fantastic music from one of France's leading 19-20th century organ composers. Thank you!

  • Beautiful.
