Maybe I'm just jaded or cynical or whatever, but when I watched this movie, I saw one thing - I saw a feature length film of a woman being fawned over by a man. We're shown that horrible things happen to this woman so we'll feel sorry for her, but ultimately, the entire thing is really just a ninety minute long "ME-FEST" with the woman at the centre of the storm.
Then I realized the Director was female. Ah, now I see what you did there.
Guess women can be wankers, too, eh?

@natedogs212 I don't think she has any hope. I don't even think she's really even supposed to be quite human. her character is more like a punishment for his obsession, rather than an actual person.

If you ask me Lars Von Trier should remake this movie, I think it's right up his alley, what with "Antichrist" and all.

I would assume he does all those things and who knows what is going through he mind at this point. She may still have hope left for something good to happen. You'll be surprised on how people clenge to hope in the worst of circumstances.

I guess I am not seeing what everyone else is seeing and I have seen some bizarre movies in my time. The subject should be interesting but somehow this portrayal is dull as dishwater to me. Maybe if they chose actors who looked believable and not like mannequins and maybe if they tried less to be artsy it would have been convincing to me..Its actually quite campy in spots...
