This is a homemade recording of the Elliot Lawrence Orchestra during their December 22, 1950 - January 3, 1951 engagement there. All photos shown are of Elliot's band at the Blue Note during that period. This appearance at the Blue Note was the high watermark of Elliot's road band. It was Elliot's goal to appear there and he proudly showcased his personnel recently brought over from Woody Herman. This selection is called "Four and One Moore" featuring Buddy Savitt, Herb Steward, Stan Weiss, and Mike Goldberg.

  • In the late 50's when I was 12 yo the club had moved around the corner and was located on the 2nd floor @12 N Clark St. I used to go to the Sunday matinee concert @ 4:00 with my older cousin. We saw Ellington, Basie, Maynard Ferguson big bands, Brubeck, Cannonball Adderley, George Shering. They had a 'kiddy section' in the back of the room. Cover charge was $1.50 with one soft drink included in the cover. And all the autographs you could garner.
