THE SCENE is a frigid, windswept corner of Siberia, where scientists labor
to free a creature trapped in the ice 20,000 years ago.
Raising the Mammoth is a documentary about locating a huge, prehistoric,
ivory-tusks-poking-out-of-the-permafrost woolly mammoth. Later comes the really hard part of the expedition -
lifting the mammoth by helicopter to a place where researchers will spend years studying it.

@DABS139 Even if it doesn't work for mammoths imagine the species we could bring back from the verge of extinction with that technology. I'm all for it!

@thegriffin88
Exactly the same with me. My aunt and uncle taped this for me, and I watched it dozens of times.

@DABS139 Why not? Have you heard of Dolly the sheep? It was a sheep cloned by inserting a chromosome containing cell into an egg, as opposed to traditional sperm.
Nowadays there are companies that can clone your pet (dead or alive) using it's blood. So why not a mammoth? They are directly related to elephants and crossbreeding between species has been done before many times. For example, Ligers (lion+tiger), Zedonk (donkey+zebras), Savannah cats(wild+domestic cat), Etc. Google it.

Don't you just love how the music sounds like an elephant trumpeting? :D

I remember watching this when I was a kid. We taped it and I watched it so many times. I was a strange kid, I watched this more times than any Disney film or cartoon show.

@exxodus87 lOl Imagine them waking on earth again! That would be awesome. However, what if they decide to SOMEHOW bring back dinosaurs? That would be crazy! They'd escape from the labs and eat everyone alive! AGH!!! lOl

@sprawlmessiah The pyrean ibex, tarpan, quagga, and baiji are actually more likely candidates to me because of them having gone extinct more recently and they have living closely related realtives.

@DABS139 You are right, I heard about it too. I read a little further though and the scientist who is doing it said there was only a 30% chance of it working. I'm all for it though! We'll see what happens in the future. I'm pretty sure it's going to happen, it's just a question of when. And I'm pretty sure it's gonna be relatively soon.
