I added this little hanging basket in their cage yesterday night.
Just wanted to see if they would like it... I cant leave it like that though, the basket holders are plastic, so they will be chewed to bits in no time.

Enjoy

  • i have 2 gerbils they are extremely over weight i try to give them running wheels and they wont even run in a ball, would this swing be a godd idea to try?

  • @nkoleczek

Running balls are very stressful for small animals. Its closed up with no way out and the animal cant stop running since the ball will continue to roll on the ground until it hits an object or a wall.

So I am not surprised the gerbils dont want to run in them. A swing will not help them lose weight.

I dont want to sound nosy, but are you controlling their intake of food ? What size cage do they live in ? How old are they ?

  • hey so you said they chew on the branches .i read somewhere that they cant eat birch wood, is that true?

  • You read this on Degutopia...the only site on the web that claims birch wood is unsafe.

I will pm you about this shortly.

  • @HannuGirl10 , my family has bred degus for over 10 years. I also never said that they couldn't be alone, some degus do fine being alone, but degus are colony animals like CHINCHILLAS, and prairie dogs, and prefer to be in a group to feel safe and secure. I understand your confusion, taxonomy is a very confusing thing, but even though they look like rats, and squirrels, they are not related. Almost all rodents have the same characteristics, but not all of them are related.

  • @HannuGirl10 squirrel*

  • hi, that video is great.im thinking about getting degu please can i have some ideas of something new to play with

  • none of mine like a ball... they just try and chew it. walk around only a tiny bit, but can tell they don't like it. And chinchillas are like 3 times or so bigger than Degu's... I didn't know that until I seen one in Petco though. Just had to make seperate comment as it wouldn't give me the option to reply to people.

  • man I wish I had something like this for mine... I guess I could make something. I have one Degu that is by himself though :( he was together with another but he kept biting his tail then act friendly then sneak up trying to cuddle and bite his tail again... LOL little bugger I wish he had a friend though I feel bad.

  • @MILK3CoOkIEsXxx Can you read? :| They are Degu's
