This is from Mark Starr, MD's book Hypothyroidism Type 2: The Epidemic.

Dr. Starr also notes that that desiccated thyroid (Armour) is much more effective than synthetic thyroid hormones.

Here is what he wrote on page 164.

A recent book by Sanford Siegal, DO, MD, entitled Is Your Thyroid Making You Fat lends additional credence to the thyroid epidemic.

Dr. Siegal specialized in weight loss.

He... asked if I would be... on his referral list... because I was one of only several hundred doctors who prescribed the medication.

In over 40 years of practice, Dr. Siegal found in treating thousands of patients that desiccated thyroid (Armour) was much more effective than synthetic thyroid hormones.

Dr. Zondek also reported the superior efficacy of desiccated thyroid over synthetic thyroid hormone in the treatment of the obese form of hypothyroidism in his 1926 textbook, Diseases of the Endocrine Glands.

He had not changed his opinion by the time the forth edition was published in 1944.

-----------

My research shows that many chronic illnesses including heart disease, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, mental illnesses, Alzheimer's disease, and the explosion of childhood illnesses are largely attributable to Type 2 hypothyroidism.

Type 1 Hypothyroidism is defined as failure of the thyroid gland to produce sufficient amounts of necessary to maintain normal blood levels of those hormones and normal blood levels of the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH).

Type 2 Hypothyroidism is defined as [a] resistance to thyroid hormones at the cellular level.

[In Type 2 hypothyroidism,] Normal amounts of thyroid hormones and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) are detected by the blood tests therefore, blood tests do not detect Type 2 hypothyroidism.

Lab tests are not used to detect Type 2 Hypothyroidism.

Mark Starr, MD defines Type 2 Hypothyroidism as someone whose symptoms indicate hypothyroidism, but their lab tests are normal.

He then tries them on desiccated thyroid (Armour thyroid) and if their symptoms resolve, then he knows that that was the problem.

Dr. Starr says this happened to him.

His lab tests were normal, but he felt tired, muscles ached, and felt awful which all resolved after taking desiccated thyroid.

  • Doc prescribed Armorthyroid. Do these labs indicate Type II hypothyroidism? Labs taken on day 15 of menses:

    •TSH+T4+T3F (Result: 1.660 uIU/ml)(Reference range: .450-4.500 uIU/ml)

    •thyroxine T4 (Result: 7.0 ug/dL)(Reference range: 4.5-12.0 ug/dL)

    •triodothyronine, free, serum (Result: 2.7 pg/mL)(Reference range: 2.0-4.4 pg/mL)

    •Thyroxine T4, Free, direct, S (Result: 1.09 ng/dL)(Reference range: .82-1.77 ng/dL)

    •reverse T3 (Result: 199 pg/mL)(Reference range: 90-350 pg/mL)

  • Mimi,

    Interesting.

    Thanks for your comment.
