Who Cares listens to the voices of Liverpudlians being rehoused from inner city terraces to suburban high-rise estates. As we hear them describe how the moves have affected them negatively, we see the old terraces being demolished, boarded up houses, and vans taking people's possessions to the new estates. The faceless 'Corporation' of Liverpool (the local authority) has deemed that they must move, and few get any choice where they move to.

  • @GoldenLegends 39 years too late mate. LOL!

  • This *is* 1971 - it's Broomfield's first film. Check Wikipedia for more info.

Also, I've got some b&w photos I took in Liverpool in the early '90s - many of which look like this.

  • @bobbydj01 Love to see your photos Bobby.

  • Very distressing. Beautifully made houses which simply needed repairs and some renovation. The same thing happened in Belfast in the early 80's - the most historic parts of the city were demolished and replaced by flats and poor quality cul-de-sac housing. Shame. Most of the old folk died too.

  • typical big government response it to do what they want without any consultation of what people wanted. they still pull that shit today. all these historic houses destroyed. no one wanted to live in high rises, they just wanted some repair to the homes they had. great film.

  • @LeanneMariie15 I helped my next-door neighbors do that a few years ago. They couldn't get their new furniture through the entryway. Until then, they had no idea that window sashes came out so easily. Sad to see it here though, in such unfortunate circumstances.

  • the film was released in 71 so I guess most fo it was filmed inmid to late 60's. We lived just over the road from my nan and we were moved out in 68.

  • oh forgot to say thanks for the memory of my nan.....xxx

  • Some of the clips are not from the 70's as my nan is in this film and she moved out of Egerton Street in 1971 when its states the film was made, but she was didnt look like that then.

  • These clearances and rehousing were a betrayal of the working class.Under the guise of``welfare`they scattered communties to the four winds.

  • good old days

  • @GoldenLegends Proof that there's never been a 'brain drain' from the south. :)

  • Best film I've seen on youtube. How untterley bleak and heartbreaking. Explains a lot about all of the social troubles of late 70's early 80's.
