Paul The Painter was a local Glastonbury street artist. He was one of life's true gentlemen, and whilst he lived on the street, he never lived off the State, choosing instead to try to live off painting local shoips and pubs. He died young at just 50 years old after a cardiac arrest brought on by an asthma attack. This is Glastonbury Online Television's tribute to a man known simply as Paul The Painter.

  • Thank you - it was our way of saying goodbye to a man that no-one in Glastonbury had a bad word to say about. He always gave people the time of day, and was one of life's true gentlemen.

  • Thanks so much for this. I knew Paul from when we were both about 3 years old until I lost contact with him over 30 years ago. From your description he was clearly unchanged in so many ways - even the toast! (He loved it burnt to a crisp when were kids.) It was with great sadness to learn that he is gone, I would have dearly loved the chance to see him again. Anyway, sounds like he made some true friends. God bless you and thanks for all you did for him.

  • What a lovely youtube video. I remember Paul well from when I ran the Vine (the "little vine") in Norwich. A lovely character, I truly have only good memories of him. We exhibited his paintings in the pub one time, and the first sold before it had got on the wall!

  • Thank you for posting this. I knew Paul very well when he was in Norwich and often wondered where he was now.... Very sad news. A true character.
