This game is AMAZING. I had Fraps open from recording some DMC4 footage earlier that day (DMC4 Weapons and Guns tutorial). I accidentally ended up activating Fraps in the middle of a long run since I was fumbling around with the Japanese interface.

At this point, we were both rather lost and tired. We had almost no healing items - we were in this run for THREE HOURS because we sucked. We didn't know spawns could be skipped.

This is us hitting the final block - we had NO idea there was a final boss fight. Unfortunately, I ran out of space before the fight ended, but this is what we got of the fight.

The Hunter gameplay is a lighter version of DMC4 - you can cancel the animations of most of your attacks, you can air combo, you can jump out of your attacks, you can do a Trickster style dodge on the ground AND IN THE AIR.

Apologies if we suck, we were VERY tired from the earlier part of the run, and on top of that I couldn't get my PS2 controller working, so I was struggling with mouse + keyboard when clearly this was a very DMC4 style console centric game. I had to use a PS3 controller that emulated an X360 gamepad, but only got it working the day after this fight.

I *can't wait* for this game to be released!

  • WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO BE A JAPAN EXCLUSIVE?! WHY?!?!?!

  • @XxRaN96xX There are hints in the datamined files that there are multi-language files, which suggests that this game will have worldwide servers that allows international players to play with each other (i.e. JP and Western players in one group). PSP2i and PSU didn't have this (and it was ultimately a really bad decision on their part) but here's hoping that we'll be able to play internationally. It's fairly likely that we'll at LEAST get a Western release though.

  • fuck yeah

  • @Keirnoth Yeah I have noticed that from the tons of videos but that's just it, I thought they were going to make it so it used PP. I guess they found a better way, I don't mind of course. Oh yes, they are each different. The step seems to give Hunters a better edge rather then them having the roll or teleport thing, I'm glad they didn't just give them all a roll and call it a day.

  • @Keirnoth I like that, it'll make me wanna use different weapons.

Fair enough, and I agree. The loot was a big thing I remember about PSO. I'm not disappointed in the least from what I've seen so far, it's just awesome.

  • @Tkthegreat14 The dash/roll/teleport doesn't use PP. The Ranger's roll has recovery, while the Force's teleport is kinda.. floaty. So even though they have similar uses they have different properties.

  • @Tkthegreat14 From what I can tell, Sakai looks like he's trying to consolidate weapon types so that one weapon type does multiple functions.

But yeah, it's too early to tell if the game has longevity. The Skill Trees are a nice touch, but if Sakai truly wants this game to be a "real" PSO sequel, there needs to be TONS of loot to be found.

  • @Keirnoth Now that's what I'm talking about, putting any form of canceling has pushed this game further. Lol Good fewer weapons, I had like 3 Swords in PSU. And they have taken out leveling PA's, I don't know if that's a good thing or not. Mostly because they also took out Character Levels, my question is so far from you playing, do you think the Skill Tree and finding rares will be enough to keep a person playing? For me I'm guessing yeah haha. Thanks for the info, it all sounds good.

  • @Keirnoth Ah I see, but since this game has PP I see consumables being used much more. Because in the heat of battle one would be using PA's which waste PP as well as the Knock Up move and if a Hunter could use Resta that would also waste PP and I thought the Dash/Roll/Teleport thing was going to use up PP? Overall I won't mind though.

  • @CrownofSapphire No idea if they'll do PvP. Take note, Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity had a PvPish sorta mode, and the old PSO1 had Battle Mode implemented with different "rules" you could use. So I'm pretty sure they'll add some sort of optional PvP mode. However PvP has never been the focus of the PSO/PSU series. I'm not a PvP guy so I'm not too concerned if there's none.
