Here is a wonderful Regina Music Box called the "Reginaphone." Thjs box is in all original condition, including the music combs, nothing has been rebuilt or restored inside or out. Aside from some normal wear on the musical combs, this is the tuning/sound they heard in 1907. This also has the short bedplate and double comb, which gives a very melodious and sonorous tone. Regina was called the "Queen of the Music Boxes", and for good reason. :) When I found it, the record player platter and tone arm were missing, however the metal horn was there. Over the years, I was able to find modern replicated replacements for the platter and tone arm. Interesting that this model 140 does not say "Reginaphone" on the lid, even though it is definitely a Reginaphone. This music box is in it's original condition since it left the factory, nothing has been done inside or out. It was one of the first made in 1907 in the case Style 140, with the 'Rookwood" finish and hand-painted scenes. It is the 7th of only 92 made with the 7 digit serial number. It left the Rahway NJ factory in February, 1907. It also has a tin horn, turntable and arm for the 78 record player, along with the short bedplate and double comb.

The "Reginaphone" was an attempt by the Reigna Music Box Co. of Rahway, NJ, to keep pace with the 78 Phonograph that was starting to become popular. Regina added the ability to play 78 records in this Model, Style 140. I'm the second owner of this music box. The first owner bought it new in 1907! This was the 7th one of only 92 that were made. It is in the "Rookwood" finish, with hand-painted scenes on all sides of the music box. Unfortuneltly, the first owners must have left it near a window which had the sun at certain times of the day. As a result, the finish is somewhat faded, but the inside of the box is almost like it was new. Please enjoy the music from a time gone by. :) Btw, The same Regina Company is still in business...making vacumn cleaners! If I am not mistaken, this is the same model that is on display at the MBSI Museum.

  • Thanks for the compliment. It's great to have an original unrestored Regina like this, and to be able to hear what it sounded like in 1907.

Of course there is some wear to the musical comb, but not much, as it was not played a lot by the 1 original owner.
