What to call my "other half"

My partner and I had our legal civil partnership ceremony last year. If we were straight we'd be "husband" and "wife".
But we're not straight, so neither of those terms seem to be exactly applicable.

So, what terms *are* applicable?

Yeah, that's the kind of loose term I use in informal company. It's when we're doing scary grown-up stuff (like bank accounts or wills) that we find ourselves lacking the jargon to describe one another.

Well I call my partner who I have been with 5 years husband or husbear, I know thats cutesy but sometimes I can be silly. I can see your dilemma on the subject and I have no idea what the correct term would be. In our area they dont allow same sex civil partnerships yet, yes, its still the dark ages here =/

I think you'e brought up here a very important and often overlooked issue. I do think an entirely new vocabulary needs to be created. Do you think it will happen sort of organically, or do you think communities should actually have a talk and decide on new terms?
