I think you'e brought up here a very important and often overlooked issue. I do think an entirely new vocabulary needs to be created. Do you think it will happen sort of organically, or do you think communities should actually have a talk and decide on new terms?

Yeah, that's the kind of loose term I use in informal company. It's when we're doing scary grown-up stuff (like bank accounts or wills) that we find ourselves lacking the jargon to describe one another.

Well I call my partner who I have been with 5 years husband or husbear, I know thats cutesy but sometimes I can be silly. I can see your dilemma on the subject and I have no idea what the correct term would be. In our area they dont allow same sex civil partnerships yet, yes, its still the dark ages here =/
