http://www.cycle9.com What's Cycle 9 got to do with Peak Oil? And what is Peak Oil anyway? Go By Bike is a daily video series that talks about electric bikes, electric kits, cargo bikes, bike safety, getting motivated to bike, and how to ride more and use your car less. Using your car less reduces your carbon footprint, saves energy, helps the environment, gets you in shape, and makes your community a nicer place to live. Elise Giddings is owner of Cycle 9, a store dedicated to providing the information, products, and support needed by others to integrate bikes into their lifestyle.

  • I suggest people look at velomobiles. A velomobile is a recumbent tricycle with an aerodynamic fairing. Velomobiles offer higher speed then a bicycle, can have electric assist and offer weather proofing. Why not just get rid of private cars all together. The world would be a better place for it.

  • Also Cars are far too heavy for their size which is why they take so much energy, Though they will always be around as there are always conditions in which they are a better mode of transit in some form or another, but I would definitely like cycling to be taken more seriously by America and become a much more widely used for of transportation.

  • @KrunchyJD I agree with promoting cycling by gov't and all. But you have to realize there are plenty of renewable resources available instead of fossil fuels (primarily oil and coal) Hydrogen and Electrics can run off of Solar, Wind, Hydro, and Nuclear which are infinite, mainly sun and wind even though wind can be spotty. I prefer Solar power myself, it's just the cells that turn it into energy aren't efficient enough yet. Yes cars require i.m.o. too much power to become mobile.

  • @experimental0000 Cycling, and promoting cycling by govt, is the best course of action. So many people say, why not electric cars, hydrogen cars etc. All that does is switch effectively from one finite resource to another. Where are you going to get all that new electricity/ hydrogen from? Most likely by burning coal in a power station.

The problem with cars is that they require a lot of power to move them, power that could be used more effectively somewhere else.

  • that's why we should use electricity, hydrogen, biofuels, and natural gas. those will get us using less oil. There are many clean sources like wind, solar, hydro, and nuclear. I appreciate your perspective on things, though sometimes it might help to check out the alternatives to oil. I am all for biking. I live for being on my bike, but I want to see oil nolonger used for fuel for the cars out there
