It's actually a combination of airspeed, and ALL gear has hit the tarmac (speedbrakes aren't effective in a nose up profile). There are other interlocks that I can't remember, but there are a couple more.

Wow that is a stroke of bad luck. I've lived here in Mauritius for eleven years and I've only ever been in about 2 category 4 cyclones and only two category 5 cyclones. Doubt you will have that trouble if you ever come again.

How was Mauritius itself?

We had some bad luck, because we were there for 1 week and in that exact same week, Mauritius was hit by a category 4 cyclone. So we stayed in the resort and I didn't see a lot of the island :(

Actually, the air brakes (or speedbrakes) are automatically opened when the main gear hits the tarmac ;-)
