A wonderful poem by e.e.cummings

--

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

  • I love this poem!

  • I do as well, and when I read it during my reserve duty it felt so perfect & surreal. It really is a beautiful love poem.

  • Missed you sir! You read so well. I've always loved E.E. Cummingsm and you bring a new depth to his work. Enjoyed it!

  • Damn! I actually thought I didn't do it justice at ALL. :)

    Thanks for the support, man!

  • Glad to see you back well, and safe. A pleasure to me of YouTube is the way I am exposed to the poetry in other people. You play a part in that, and I thank you for it.

  • And I thank YOU for your continued support and thoughtful comments.

  • Everybody, check out Wood Allen’s “Hannah and Her Sisters” There is a scene where one of Hannah’s sisters reads that poem. Not only is it beautifully staged, the interpretation, reading and delivery are wonderful. It is subtle and tender.

  • Great job! This is my favorite poem.
