What are the Best and Worst Gifts?

Prepaid gift cards that tout themselves as being "just as good as" the full-fledged credit cards that share their logos seem like a great idea. Ideally, they'd be less restrictive than traditional gift certificates that are only good for specific merchants and more classy than plain old cashmoney. Unfortunately, there are quite a few caveats that you may not be aware of that should make you think twice before presenting your loved ones with this very conditional gift option.

I don't think the song, Fur Elise, is licensed. I think copyrights expire 70 years after the death of the composer in the USA. I'm not sure if they apply in Germany. Beethoven died in 1827. 1827 + 70 = not licensed.  The recordings, though, I think are a different story. It can get confusing and I hope that SOPA doesn't pass.

Fun and relevant gifts -yes, but Chris....c'mon man, you've gotta spend a few bucks on your better half. I hope you also got her something sparkly - even if you're not into blood diamonds etc. ladies still like cool artisan-made jewelry. Ladies also like spa visit gift certs. And Fur Elise has been in the public domain for a couple centuries so no worries.
