Celebration of SUTA 2010 at Bangladesh

In yet another historic showdown, the Hon'ble Members of Parliament of the 9th Bangladesh Parliament gathered together under one banner on the premises of the highly imposing parliament building on September 17, 2010, expressing once again their determination to free the nation from the clutch of poverty and hunger. By forgetting their political differences and opinion, the lawmakers of both the treasury and opposition benches took oath as they did last year on October 17 to work together to eradicate poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in line with the ongoing anti-poverty campaign. A Big Stand-Up demonstration joined by the Hon'ble Members of Parliament and all others took place as part of the day's programme at the South Plaza of Bangladesh Parliament. The Anti-Poverty Campaign National Committee, Bangladesh Parliament, All-Party Party Parliamentary Group (APPGs) with the active supports from different ministries of Bangladesh Government, People's Empowerment Trust (PET) and United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC) organized the day's programme uniting the Parliamentarians irrespective of their political identities and opinions under the banner of national unity to eradicate poverty from the country. Thousands of people representing all sections of the society also quite spontaneously integrated themselves in this anti-poverty rally and took oath together with the Parliamentarians. Hon'ble Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament, Chief Patron of APPGs and Chairperson of The Anti-Poverty Campaign National Committee Md. Abdul Hamid Advocate MP presided over the rally and conducted the oath in a solemn but ceremonious manner. The rally was addressed, among others, by Hon'ble Chief Whip of the Oppositions Zainul Abdin Farroque MP, former Speaker and Parliamentarian Hon'ble Jamir Udin Sircar MP, Hon'ble Planning Minister A K Khandkar MP, Hon'ble Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury MP, Hon'ble State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak MP, Secretary General of APPGs Mr. Shishir Shil and Head of UNMC Asia Mr.Minar Pimple.
