Chiba Shihan discusses the three W's (when, where, what) that encompass a martial encounter. Emphasizing all three in your martial arts practice with every execution of technique will help develop your Aikido. When implies timing of intiation, can be physical or psychological. Where implies body position, tai sabaki, footwork. What is what you execute with, ie technique.

  • Chiba sensei is never enough on youtube :(

  • the Fourth W is the most important for the art. 'Why'. Love is not about taking the advantage, defeating an opponent. Kata training is not competitive, or about the comparison of strength for this reason. Love is equality, love is justice, it needs no justification; but it is the source of justice and justification themselves. To justify aikido is not the right way. Justified aikido is like Musashi's art of killing. This is a mistake based on asymmetry. Look inside the heart, no enemy exists
