Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests For Life, continues the series on preaching about abortion. In this video, Fr. Pavone points to a key theme that we should include in our pro-life homilies, and that is this: "To Be Pro-Life is to be Pro-Woman," or more simply "Why can't we love them both?"
Our preaching needs to take into account people's attitudes toward the abortion issue and the tactics of the other side. One of the more favored tactics of the other side is to present our 'loyalty to the child' as being 'opposition to the mother.' They want the public to think that we love the child and they stand with the mother.
But the real difference between the two sides which is they think you can separate the two, and we say you can't. The destiny and dignity of the mother and child are inextricably linked. You can't love one without loving the other, you can't serve one without serving the other, and you can't harm one without harming the other. Abortion is not sometimes bad for the mother, it is always bad for the mother. And the work of the pro-life movement and the Church are always good for both.
