Alien Eliminator is a fast-paced blast-'em-up created with BBC BASIC for Windows (a.k.a. BB4W).

There is a little bit of assembly language involved, but not much -- the main game loop is mostly BASIC.

Game features two soundtracks by Jogeir Liljedahl (licensed to me from Shockwave Sound):

- "Antiquated" (title music)
- "Latenight" (in-game music)

  • Someone recently recommended BB4W to me. I must say after watching this video and seeing what it is capable of I am very impressed. I used to program with BBC BASIC on the Acorn Electron back in the day and to hear that a version exists for the PC is very exciting. The gameplay seems awfully fast though is that set on the hardest level? At my age I don't think I could keep up as it seems really busy onscreen. Very cool and retro looking though. Thanks for sharing.

  • @DLiberator78 BBC BASIC has come a very long way since the days of the Acorn Electron (which, incidentally, was the machine I first started with!). Richard Russell has made enchancements to the language which make it much more powerful and is simply a pleasure to program in. As for Alien Eliminator, there's no way to set the difficultly level, it just gets more hectic. You may like to take a look at my website: bb4wgames(dot)com (or just google BB4W games).

  • @dw1664 Having looked at Richard Russell's website I can that indeed BBC has come on leaps and bounds. I too loved to program in BBC BASIC on the Electron back in the day it was a real joy. Thanks for the link to your website I think I did stumble across it in my research for BBC BASIC and I will definitely pay another visit and check out the games and see what gems are there. I feel inspired again. Many thanks. :-)
