She wanted to help not only her mom battle cancer, but women everywhere, especially younger ones who may not realize they're at risk too.
R&B singer Mya recently recorded a song with a different kind of title. It's called "My Bra." What prompted her to perform this particular tune? The artist knows firsthand how important a "bra" (a source of strength and support) can be to women suffering from breast cancer. The singer was a "bra" to her mother, who was diagnosed with the disease in 1998. "A bra is an example or metaphor of someone lifting you up and being your support system through a very trying time," she says. "It's someone who knows communication is key. Listening to any issues and helping to resolve them. Visiting the hospital or other simple things like making a card for them instead of buying one." (Her song "My Bra" is featured in the Lifetime Original Movie "Matters of Life and Dating," premiering October 22 at 9 pm et/pt. It's about a young woman dealing with breast cancer and finding Mr. Right at the same time.)
