In a battle for first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference, visiting Capital kept surging Muskingum from reaching the top midway through the season.
One game back in the standings, host Muskingum failed to knock off the perennial power Crusaders at the Recreation Center, falling 63-60.
Tiffany Youel's potential game-tying three-point attempt at the buzzer fell short, as the Lady Muskies slipped to 6-3 in the OAC and 11-5 overall. League-leading Capital upped its record to 8-1 in the OAC and 11-3 overall.
The Crusaders got a team-high 20 points from Kristen Richardson and 18 points and eight rebounds from Daniele Sanna. Jessica McKenzie ripped the nets for a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds, as Muskingum held a 35-30 edge on the glass.
Youel added 19 points in the loss.
