Qristina and Quinn performing "Hangman's Reel" (also known as Le Reel du Pendu) at the Duke of Dublin Olde Irish Pub in Abbotsford, BC, January 3, 2009.

The story behind "Hangman's Reel" goes something like this .... while in jail for many years, a prisoner taught himself how to play the fiddle, on the day he is to be hung the prison guards grab his fiddle & mess with it so it's out of tune. Then they hand it back to him and say "If you can play a good piece on this fiddle, we'll let you live." This is the tune he played, you can decide the outcome for yourself.

  • great stuff guys! Im glad to hear your doing so well! Ive met you both at the WCSF'scamp at Roberts Creek. And have to say youve really grown! Especially Quinn!I look forward to your New CD. Will you have it at camp this year??

    Cheers Leslie Malm (Lillooet BC)

  • Hi, thanks for your compliments. Our CD came out last July 10th, we didn't go to Roberts Creek since we played at the Vancouver Island Music Fest, the Islands Folk Festival & then went to Scotland and Ireland. We're holding our official CD release on February 28th! We won't be going to the camp as participants (we are going back to Ireland this summer) but maybe we'll get someone to bring out some CDs - take care!

  • I've totally gotta arrange this for my bass....

  • G is tuned to an A, D is tuned up to E, A stays the same, E goes down to a C#.

  • G tunes to A, D tunes to E, A stays the same, E goes down to a C#.

  • wait so the G is tuned to C# or A

  • Great version. I love this tune - it's just so outrageously theatrical! (But a real pain to have to retune the fiddle every time!?)
